About NGS

The National Governance Symposium (NGS) is an annual flagship event organized by Governance Lab under Daayitwa Abhiyaan. It is a politically neutral platform that brings together government representatives, private sector leaders, civil society actors, and academia to foster dialogue on governance innovation and inclusive development in Nepal. Since 2022, NGS has highlighted collaborative public service models, translated field experiences into actionable policy insights, and promoted shared accountability across Nepal’s governance ecosystem.

Objectives

The National Governance Symposium aims to celebrate local success stories of governance innovation while generating policy-relevant insights that strengthen institutional capacity across Nepal’s governance system. It facilitates evidence-based dialogue among government, private sector, civil society, and academic stakeholders, promoting governance grounded in inclusivity, sustainability, and accountability. Through multi-stakeholder engagement, NGS seeks to foster synergy, informed decision-making, and shared responsibility across federal, provincial, and local levels, while creating pathways for youth, women, and marginalized communities to meaningfully contribute to Nepal’s development.

Agendas of NGS over the years

1. NGS 2025 – Doing Development Differently

The 2025 edition of NGS focuses on “Doing Development Differently,” emphasizing the strategic mobilization of four core resources—People, Money, Data, and Technology—as foundational pillars for building stronger institutions and accelerating Nepal’s journey toward a self-reliant and enterprising nation. Through keynote plenaries and policy studios, the symposium explores how capable leadership, sustainable financing, integrated data systems, and pragmatic digital reforms can deliver meaningful and lasting development outcomes, while challenging conventional development approaches and encouraging collective action.

4. NGS 2022 – Promoting Innovation in Local Governance for Inclusive Economic Development of Nepal

The inaugural NGS in 2022 addressed governance challenges emerging from Nepal’s federal transition, including gaps in policy implementation, institutional capacity, and inclusive decision-making. It provided a politically neutral platform to celebrate, study, and contextualize innovative local governance practices and collaborative public service delivery models. By bringing together municipalities and governance actors from across the country, NGS 2022 laid the foundation for the symposium as a national forum for learning, collaboration, and inclusive governance reform.
