Nepal’s federal system has expanded opportunities for inclusion, yet women and marginalized groups remain sidelined from leadership.Constitutional provision of one-third women’s representation and proportionate inclusion of Dalits, Indigenous groups, Madhesis, Muslims, and persons with disabilities have not translated into real power. Women hold only 2% of mayor/chair positions, largely confined to deputy roles with limited authority. Centralized party practices, elite-controlled candidate selection, and high campaign costs further disadvantage women and minorities
To counter these systemic barriers, building the capacity of aspiring women leaders is vital. They must be equipped with cutting-edge knowledge, strategic campaign skills, and practical tools to navigate party politics, engage communities, manage limited resources, and challenge male-dominated power structures.
In this context, Governance Lab is hosting a 3-day residential workshop to strengthen the capacity of emerging women leaders starting from January 22, 2026.
